A Quincy native who went on to serve as editor of a prominent conservative website and came home to run for Congress last year has died.

The family of Mike Flynn announced Friday that he died unexpectedly Thursday night.

The 47 year old Flynn was a 1985 graduate of Quincy High School. He was a founding editor of Big Government dot com, a conservative website started by the late Andrew Breitbart.

When Congressmen Aaron Schock resigned his seat last year, Flynn was one of three Republicans who ran in the special primary to fill the seat. Flynn finished second to Darrin LaHood, who went on to win the special election.

Information released by Flynn’s family did not include a cause of death.
