A man wanted in Jefferson City on assault and other charges is in custody in Pike County Illinois.

Sheriff Paul Petty says Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers tried to make a traffic stop in Hannibal Saturday morning on a car driven by Christopher Tapscott. Authorities say Tapscott drove off and crossed into Illinois where he crashed his vehicle and fled into a corn field. A perimeter was established and a K-9 unit was brought in. Tapscott was apprehended as he tried to cross the Mark Twain Bridge back into Missouri on foot. Illinois State Police say Tapscott was wanted in Jeff City for assault on a female. He’s also charged with possession of a stolen vehicle… unlawful use of a weapon and traffic offenses.
