A Marion County resident became the victim of a computer scam earlier this week.

According to Detective Tyler Wheeler of the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, a female reported that she received a phone call Tuesday from someone claiming to be with the Microsoft computer virus office.

The woman was told she had purchased the wrong virus protection and they needed to get into her computer to download a different version.

The woman gave the caller her computer’s IP address and her credit and debit card information.

The woman later called her bank to discover that $900 had been taken out of her account from another state.

Authorities advise the public to never give out personal information over the phone and never give out your computer’s IP address.
