The Marion County Commission Monday reaffirmed its opposition to a new set of high voltage electric transmission lines running through Marion County.

On a 2-0 vote, the commission rejected a request from Ameren Transmission Company of Illinois to use or cross county roads for the Mark Twain Transmission Project.

The project would run a 345,000 volt transmission line a hundred miles from Palmyra to Kirksville to the Iowa border.

The Missouri Public Service Commission had okayed the project last April, on the condition that the five counties through which the lines would run give their approval.

Earlier this month, the Shelby County Commission decided to take no action until a lawsuit filed in connection with the project had been resolved.
