The Marion County Commission Monday approved a zoning change on 40 acres of property that would pave the way for the construction of a sports complex.

The request to the commission from Lois Damron rezones her land from agriculture to commercial. The commission stipulated that the land only be used for sports recreational use.

Damron plans on building four baseball fields and a soccer or softball field on the site.

The approval came despite objections of neighbors, protesting about the possibility of late night crowds, lights and noise at the complex.
