Marion County Commissioners vote to place a county wide quarter cent sales tax for road improvements and maintenance on the April ballot.

Marion County Presiding Commissioner Lyndon Bode says that if passed, Proposition R is expected to allow the county to convert 390 miles of county roads from river rock to white gravel and place 70 miles of blacktop roads on a regular resurfacing schedule. Bode says the tax should also generate enough money to allow other improvements including replacement of concrete box culverts.

Bode says commissioners plan a series of informational sessions around the county as election day approaches. Dates, times and locations will be announced at a later date.
