The Marion County Commission continues its quest to replace the county’s oldest bridges.

On Monday, the commission voted to file a request for a federal grant to pay 80 percent of the replacement cost for two rural bridges.

The grant is part of a program being offered by the Missouri Department of Transportation.

If the county gets the grant, the South River Bridge on County Road 402 east of Palmyra and the Big Branch Bridge on County Road 230 southwest of Palmyra would be replaced at a total cost of about a million dollars.

The county won’t know if they get the grant until at least next spring.
