A suburban Chicago man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for his foiled attempt to hire a hit man to kill three of his relatives.

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin says 24-year-old Matthew Olszewski of Glendale Heights also was sentenced to two years in prison for stealing jewelry from those relatives. That sentence is to run after his term for the solicitation-of-murder convictions.

Berlin says that Olszewski was jailed in August of last year on felony theft charges when he tried to pay someone to kill his aunt, uncle and the uncle's father.

Investigators say he arranged a meeting with the hit man, who was actually an undercover officer.
