Majority of Illinois Roads Snow Covered

Heavy, blowing snow is slowing travel across much of Illinois as the state gets pelted by the latest round of winter weather.

The Illinois Department of Transportation says Wednesday that the "majority" of the state's roads are snow and ice covered thanks to the storm that's dumping snow from southwestern Illinois to the Wisconsin state line.

The National Weather Service in Romeoville says up to 6 inches of snow is expected in the Chicago area, along with winds that could reach 25 mph.

Central Illinois could get 8 inches by the time the storm system moves through later in the morning.

Bitter temperatures are expected to follow the storm. Forecasters say wind chills in some area could sink to 30 degrees below zero on Thursday.
