A third Republican has decided to enter the race for Missouri 5th District State Representative next year.

The Courier-Post reports that Hannibal teacher and attorney Louis Riggs has announced that he wants to replace Lindell Shumake in the Missouri House.

Term limits prevent Shumake from running for reelection.

Riggs will join Palmyra Mayor Loren Graham and Monroe City Mayor Neal Minor on the GOP primary ballot in 2018.

Riggs will make an official announcement of his candidacy Tuesday afternoon at Becky’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlor and Emporium in Hannibal.

Missouri’s Fifth District includes all of Marion and Shelby counties and the northern portion of Monroe County.
