(MONTICELLO)—Lewis County Sheriff’s deputies warn of phone scams recently reported in the area. One scam involves a call saying you’ve won unclaimed funds from Publishers Clearinghouse. Another scam involves a call from someone claiming to be a relative incarcerated in Florida and needing money to get out of jail. A third scam uses a post card that appears to be from the government seeking to make changes in a Medicare plan. Deputies remind you to never give information over the phone unless you directly contacted the company. Contact your bank or law enforcement agency before committing to any transaction if you are in any way concerned about it.
