Legionnaires’ Disease Cases, Deaths Rise at Illinois Veterans’ Home

The number of cases and the number of deaths resulting from the outbreak of Legionnaires' Disease at the Illinois Veterans’ Home continues to climb. 

Adams County Health Department officials report that 29 lab-confirmed cases of Legionnaires' Disease have now been confirmed, and the death toll has now risen to four.

Everyone confirmed with the legionella bacteria is connected with the veterans’ home, but no information is available on whether any of those infected are staff members.

Health officials say access to water sources that could carry the bacteria in the home have been limited, and possible sources of water-borne bacteria are being cleaned.
