The Catch Cupid If You Can 5K Fun Run/Walk is a fund raiser for the organization Kids in Motion. Appropriately enough, an alumnus of the program will be leading the race.

In a press release from Hannibal Parks and Recreations, it was announced that past Kids in Motion participant Alex Meyer will serve as “cupid” for the third annual Catch Cupid if you Can 5K Fun Run/Walk Saturday, April 26. He will lead the group of runners and walkers around the course in Riverview Park.

Proceeds from the event will help fund Kids in Motion. The 16 year old Meyer is a junior at Mark Twain High School. He recently finished his fourth marathon, the Go St. Louis Marathon April 6. In his second marathon in Kansas City, he won second place in his age group. He runs with a group of Hannibal-Quincy runners called the Heartland Road Runners and Walkers Club in Quincy.

During each marathon Alex carries bead necklaces to give to spectators along the course and thanks them for their support. He is planning to run the Air Force Marathon in Dayton, Ohio, this September. The Catch Cupid if you Can Fun Run/Walk was rescheduled due to the snow on the course when it was originally scheduled in February.

Registration forms and more information are available online from Hannibal Parks and Recreation.

Kids in Motion is a pre-employment/service learning training program for teens and pre-teens which teaches the value of work and community. Participants in the KIM program spend time in Riverview Park in the summer, picking up trash, weeding and clearing trails. During the run/walk, KIM members will be on the course cheering on participants.
