Keokuk Woman Sentenced for Stealing from Elderly Relative

A Keokuk, Iowa woman is sentenced Wednesday for stealing from an elderly family member living in a Quincy nursing home.

56 year old Laura Hawkins gets 30 months of what is known as second chance probation, and must pay $18,000 in restitution.

Hawkins was found guilty of theft in a stipulated bench trial last month.

Hawkins was arrested in February of 2016. Quincy Police were notified by Sycamore Healthcare that a 77 year old resident was possibly being exploited by a family member with power of attorney. An investigation revealed that several thousand dollars had been misused.
