Spring enrollment at John Wood Community College bucks a four year trend at Illinois community colleges.

College officials say on line enrollment is helping JWCC defy that trend.  Over the last four years… spring on-line enrollment at John Wood is up 49 percent—the fourth largest increase among 48 community colleges statewide. JWCC reports a gain of over six hundred on line students in the last four years.

Since 2014… JWCC is also one of only four community colleges in the state to have steady or increased enrollment for the spring semester.  A statewide report shows community colleges in Illinois see an overall 15 percent decrease in spring semester enrollment.

JWCC has also launched other growth initiatives recently with the Smart Start 2 by 2 program to help high achieving high school students complete the first two years of college while still in high school. JWCC is also adding women’s and men’s soccer and women’s volleyball.

JWCC President Mike Elbe says,  “We need to find an enrollment balance among various student groups and delivery systems,” he said.  “That means offering relevant programs delivered in ways to best meet the learning styles and schedules of students of all ages in our region and beyond.”
