The John Wood Community College Board of Trustees has given the residents of its district a tax break.

The board voted Wednesday to abate about $93,000 in property taxes for this year.

The tax had been tied to general obligation bonds issued in 2012 to pay for the Chevron Project that helped make the John Wood facilities more energy efficient.

The board says they have the money in their operating fund to make payments on the bonds, so the additional tax money wasn’t needed.
