A former western Illinois state representative announces Monday she will run for the Illinois Senate in 2016.

Jil Tracy made the announcement during an 11-city tour around the 47th Senatorial District.

Tracy told a gathering at Washington Park in Quincy she believes she is uniquely qualified to represent western Illinois, having already served eight of the district’s eleven counties as a member of the Illinois House.

Tracy was a state representative from the 94th District from 2006 through January of this year. She left the House to run for Lieutenant Governor with gubernatorial candidate Kirk Dillard.

Tracy wants to replace Senator John Sullivan, who announced earlier this year he would not seek reelection.

Sullivan is a Democrat, Tracy a Republican.
