The Prospect League has confirmed that the Hannibal Cavemen will not field a team in the summer collegiate league in 2017.

In a press release, the league announced its 2017 schedule and reported that both the Cavemen and the DuPage Drones have elected to suspend operations for the 2017 season.

The release also said, “Both franchises are expected to resume operations and begin playing again starting with the 2018 season at locations to be determined.”

The Friday afternoon announcement from the league comes on the heels of comments from Cavemen co-owner Rick DeStefane that there would be no baseball in Hannibal this summer.

The Cavemen have competed in the Prospect League since 2009.
