A man suspected of fatally stabbing a Davenport woman and injuring her husband has been captured in western Illinois, an Illinois sheriff said.

Rock Island County Sheriff Jeff Boyd said Tuesday that Gary Fortune had been apprehended but didn't provide any other details, the Quad-City Times reported. Fortune was expected to appear in a Rock Island County court on Wednesday, where he will have an opportunity to waive extradition proceedings for his return to Iowa's Scott County, where he is charged with first-degree murder. Online court records don't list the name of his attorney in the case.

Fortune, 48, is accused of stabbing a married couple late Monday at their Davenport apartment. The woman died later at a hospital, police have said, and her husband underwent surgery. Their names haven't been released.

Davenport Assistant Police Chief Don Schaeffer said Tuesday that Fortune knew the couple.
