Authorities in Pike County, Illinois are working to identify human remains that were found in the Mississippi River near Saverton last week.

According to Pike County Coroner Paul Petty, a human leg with articles of clothing, including a boot, attached, was found caught up underneath driftwood near Saverton.

Authorities say DNA samples from the remains have been collected, and the work has begun to identify the remains.

Petty says the process could take from four to eight weeks, but hopes results will be back sooner than that.
