Stephenson County Animal Control officials say a northern Illinois woman charged with animal cruelty has turned 84 dogs over to officials.

Animal Control Warden Kristen Laue said 45-year-old Tina McKinnon of Freeport turned the dogs over Wednesday.

According to the Journal Standard in Freeport, McKinnon was charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals after the animals were found in her home March 16.

Byron Sloan is her attorney. He said McKinnon has not entered a plea but he has asked the court to determine whether she is fit to stand trial.

Laue said photos of most of the dogs will be posted on lost-dog Facebook sites in case they have owners. If not they can be adopted. A small number need advanced medical care.
