Illinois Pension Proposal Reaction

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – Illinois Sen. Kirk Dillard wants to read pension-reform legislation before deciding whether to support it. Lawmakers could be asked to vote as early as Tuesday.

The Hinsdale Republican is among four GOP candidates for governor in 2014. He says he’s only heard word-of-mouth explanations of the reform plan to close a $100 billion retirement-system funding gap.

Dillard wants two days of hearings before the Senate so all sides can have a say.     Another candidate – businessman Bruce Rauner of Winnetka – says the proposal is insufficient.

Sen. Bill Brady of Bloomington says he’ll support it because it’s the best plan after years of debate. Treasurer Dan Rutherford has not responded to requests for comment.

The four are seeking the GOP nomination to oppose Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn next fall.
