A southern Illinois farmer says he's doing OK after a farming accident that severed one of his feet.

Kent Elmore of Dieterich said he was injured Wednesday afternoon when his right foot became caught in an auger while he farmed near the small town. Dieterich is about 80 miles south of Champaign.

Elmore told the Effingham Daily News that a truck driver who was at the farm applied a tourniquet to his foot. But Elmore said he lost the foot in spite of the driver's effort.

Elmore was taken to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis where a hospital spokesman said Thursday he was in stable condition.
