Illinois Judge Removed From Bench

A Cook County judge who was found not guilty of misdemeanor battery by reason of insanity after shoving a sheriff's deputy has been removed from the bench.

In a ruling released Friday, the Illinois Courts Commission found that Judge Cynthia Brim's "mental disability" interfered with her duties. The commission also found that her refusal to seek proper medical treatment had resulted in inappropriate conduct that "brought the judicial office into disrepute." She has been diagnosed with "schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type."

A judicial inquiry board removed Brim from the bench after her trial last year. In March, she asked the commission that she be allowed back on the bench.

Brim told the Chicago Sun-Times on Friday that she is "disappointed." She has been diagnosed with "schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type."
