The Illinois Department of Agriculture has given its blessing to a large hog confinement facility in Adams County.

The Adams County Board made public Friday a notification by the Department of Ag, informing the board that more likely than not, Pike Pig Systems has met the provisions of the Livestock Management Facilities Act for its proposed Gin Ridge swine facility northeast of Columbus.

The state also said that the facility can’t be built until all other applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations have been met.

Plans call for the Gin Ridge facility to house 3,000 sows producing about 65,000 pigs per year.
