HPD Reminds Pet Owners of Cold Weather Dangers

Hannibal Police remind pet owners about the danger cold weather poses for animals.

Lieutenant John Zerbonia says if it is too cold for you to spend much time outside… it is probably too cold for cats and dogs.

If you are unable to keep your pet inside… you are encouraged to provide them with a warm… solid shelter against the wind and make sure they have access to fresh non frozen water and plenty of food.

The floor of the shelter should also be off the ground to minimize heat loss.

Bedding should be thick… dry and changed regularly to provide a warm… dry environment.
