This may come as a disappointment to some … but it is not against the law to dress up as a clown in the city of Hannibal.

In a press release from Hannibal Police, Lt. John Zerbonia reports that HPD received a report Tuesday evening of a passenger in a vehicle dressed as a clown. Police determined that the vehicle was only driving down the highway and the subject was not trying to scare or threaten anyone.

Lt. Zerbonia points out that merely dressing in a costume is not a violation of any city ordinance or state statute, and there are no active HPD investigations involving people dressed in costumes at this time.

This comes in the wake of Facebook reports of people dressed as clowns scaring people in Hannibal.
