(SAVERTON)—Missouri Highway Patrol officials are treating the investigation into a body found along the Mississippi River just south of Hannibal Sunday as a homicide.

Sergeant Brent Bernhardt of the patrol says the body of an unidentified female was recovered around 2:15 p.m. near Saverton. An autopsy was performed Monday in Columbia. The investigation is being conducted by the Missouri Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control and the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.
