Hit and Run Driver Arrested After Striking Bicyclist

(Golden, Ill)—Adams County Sheriff’s Deputies take a West Point, Illinois man into custody after a hit and run accident near Golden.

The accident happened at 6:36 p.m. Friday.  Deputies say Don Smith of Golden was riding his bike on East 2500^th Street when he was struck by a pickup pulling a trailer. The driver fled the scene.

A description of the vehicle led deputies to a location in West Point . Around 10 p.m.,  officers took 50 year-old Tracy Herman into custody and impounded his truck .  Herman is lodged in the Adams County Jail pending an initial court appearance.

The extent of injuries to the bicyclist was not disclosed.
