Hundreds of dignitaries, family and friends gathered at the Quality Inn and Suites in Hannibal Wednesday for the ceremony officially designating Highway 61 through the city as “Tom Boland Highway.”

Aside from being a long time Hannibal businessman, Boland has been active on a regional level in improving the quality of highway transportation in northeast Missouri, western Illinois and southeast Iowa.

While Boland appreciates the recognition, he is quick to point out that he shares this honor with many others.

Boland was a member of the Missouri Highway Commission from 1992 through 1997, serving as chairman of the commission in 1994.
