The Missouri Department of Transportation has a deal for you.

MODOT is making the old bridge over Big Calumet Creek on Missouri 79 just north of Clarksville available for sale. The old bridge is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places, and local governments, historical societies and other interested groups may have the opportunity to purchase the bridge for adaptive re-use.

Karen Daniels of MODOT’s Historic Preservation Department says the bridge was built in 1936 by Deering and Davidson of St. Louis for just over 100-thousand dollars. It features a pony truss with four approach spans and is 22 feet wide from curb to curb. The bridge’s load limit was reduced last fall to 10 tons after an inspection found structural deficiencies.

Proposals for relocation and re-use of the bridge are being accepted through April 17. Preservation covenants may accompany the bridge.
