The Hannibal Salvation Army for the first time sets a six-figure goal for its annual Tree of Lights Christmas campaign.

At its kickoff event Thursday, campaign chairs Joseph and Sharon Welch announced that they plan to raise $100,000 between now and the end of 2016.

They also announced that, although the campaign didn’t officially begin until Friday, there has already been over $10,000 raised toward their goal.

A year ago, the Hannibal Salvation Army helped 525 families with food boxes and provided 923 children with toys at Christmastime.
