Hannibal Regional celebrated a milestone earlier this week.

Tuesday marked the 25th anniversary of the opening of the new Hannibal Regional Hospital in what was then the middle of a corn field west of Hannibal.

Hospital care in Hannibal began with the opening of Levering Hospital in 1903 and St. Elizabeth Hospital in 1915. The two facilities merged into Hannibal Regional Hospital in 1988.

In the last 25 years, Hannibal Regional has greatly expanded its services, now with over 1,200 team members serving twelve counties, offices in eleven communities, 85 providers and 21 specialties.

Hospital officials hosted an anniversary celebration Tuesday, with archived photos and newspaper articles from 25 years ago on display.
