Hannibal Police say the department’s community service officers will be actively looking for poor animal conditions as temperatures drop in the next few days.
The cold weather can be dangerous for pets—especially smaller animals and those with lighter fur. Keeping pets outside for a long period of time in the extreme cold is not recommended. Indoors is the best option. If you are unable to keep your pet inside… warm solid shelter against wind is a must along with fresh, non frozen water and plenty of food. The shelter should be off the ground and with thick, dry bedding to provide a warm and dry environment.

If you observe animals not properly sheltered, contact Hannibal Police.
