With the snowstorm already dumping 8 inches of snow in Hannibal, police are requesting motorists stay off the roads if at all possible.

Roads in Hannibal and across the state are snow-covered and extremely slick, making travel dangerous. Police say less traffic will help road crews clear the roadways in a safe manner.

Due to the road conditions, Hannibal Police will only be responding to emergency calls until roads become more passable.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for central and eastern Missouri as well as central and west-central Illinois, including the Quincy area.  Total snow accumulations ranging from 10 to 15 inches possible through Saturday night. Freezing drizzle is also possible Sunday morning, which could result in ice glazing on top of the snow.
