The Hannibal Pirates and Fort Zumwalt East Lions had what turned out to be a shootout in the snow Friday night. But, in the end, the Pirates prevailed, winning the district championship with a 48-34 win in St. Peters, Missouri.

The Pirates scored on their first possession on a one-yard run by quarterback Gabe Worthington.

Then the back-and-forth started. The lead changed hands a couple of times in the second quarter, then FZE kicked a field goal as the first half ended for a 13-13 tie.

The Lions scored twice in the third quarter, but the Pirates scored three times to take a 34-27 lead at the end of three quarters.

But, Hannibal scored twice more in the fourth, sealing the win on a scoring run by Daylan Reading with just under four minutes to play.

The 9-3 Pirates await the winner of Saturday afternoon's MICDS-Hazelwood East matchup. The winner of that game comes to Porter Stadium Saturday afternoon.
