The Hannibal Parks and Recreation Department's annual "Ice Bowl" disc golf tournament Saturday, February 1, turned out to be an aptly named event.

In a press release from Mary Lynne Richards at Parks & Rec, she reported that some 30 hardy souls from throughout the area took part in the eighth annual Ice Bowl.  The course was snow and ice-covered, with freezing rain coming down during the second round. Don Crane, coordinator of the tournament, said disc golfers will play in any type of weather. “It makes it more challenging, but they love it.”

Winners in the Open Division included:

First, Daniel Soebbing of Quincy, Ill.

Second, Eric Kruse of Fort Madison, Iowa

Third,  Don Moellenbeck of Old Monroe

Fourth, Mark Kane of St. Charles

Fifth, John Shaw of Fort Madison, Iowa

In the Intermediate Division, the winners were:

First, Clifford Goodin of Thompson, Mo.

Second, John Shoemate of Fort Madison, Iowa

Third, Ronald Knutelski of Hannibal (tie)

Third, Keith McPeak of Lake St. Louis (tie)

And, in the Novice class, these were the winners:

First, Chris Wright of Hannibal

Second, Kris Campbell of Hannibal

Third, Tim Milligan of Fort Madison, Iowa

Fourth, Lowell Newberry of Dallas City, Ill.

Fifth, Quinten Heaton of Hannibal

Proceeds went to the Buddy Pack program, which provides nutritious food to needy children on weekends. The Buddy Pack program coordinated by the Hannibal Alliance For Youth Success and Families and Community Together.

The sponsors for the event were: Hannibal Parks & Recreation, Dominos, General Mills, Excitement Disc Golf, Discmania and Gateway Disc Sports.
