The Hannibal Pirates wrapped up an undefeated season and the Palmyra Panthers bounced back against a traditional rival Friday night.

Hannibal traveled to Columbia to take on the defending Class 5 state champion Battle Spartans. Battle scored on the opening kickoff, but Hannibal came right back to score less than a minute later. In the end, the Pirates held off Battle, winning 42-35 for their first perfect regular season since 2000.

It was another big night for Shamar Griffith, rushing for 309 yards and scoring four touchdowns. Jerry McBride ran for 105 yards and a TD.

Meanwhile, at Monroe City, Palmyra trailed 12-3 at halftime, but dominated the second half for a 33-12 win.

Backup running back Clayton Hudson rushed for 155 yards and three touchdowns, Phillip Bland had 109 yards and a TD and Noah Mencer kicked two field goals.

Cody Porter scored both Monroe City touchdowns.

Palmyra goes into district play next week with a 7-2 record.
