Keep or scrap Hannibal’s marina? That debate came full circle last week, according to the Hannibal Courier Post. A recent meeting of the Park Board was attended by at least one citizen who voiced opposition to the riverfront renovation plan. The plan eliminates all boat slips at the riverfront. The Park Board unanimously approved the plan nearly 2 months ago.

Rob Myers is spearheading an effort to save the marina. He told the board he feels their vote did not represent the majority of Hannibal residents. Myers questioned eliminating the marina while expanding other parks.

However, members of the Park Board defend their vote. One member reportedly told Myers the power to change the plan now rests with the city council. The council has already approved the plan endorsed by the Park Board. Myers and supporters of the marina are now gathering petition signatures in an attempt to bring the issue back before the council.

Marina supporters are planning a rally on Saturday, August 27 at the Hannibal riverfront. The Music in the Marina event begins at 5 p.m. and includes food, music and more, according to the Save Hannibal’s Marina facebook page.
