On Thursday morning officers of the Hannibal Police Department were dispatched to Highway US 61 at West Ely regarding a vehicle that had run off the roadway.  According to witnesses, the vehicle was at first stopped in the roadway with the driver appearing to be passed out at the wheel. When other motorists attempted to contact the driver, he drove off, leaving the roadway and fled from the vehicle on foot. In an attempt to avoid officers, the suspect entered a residence on St. Marys Ave, through an unlocked front door and exited out the back. The driver, 23 year old Ryan D. Howald, of Hannibal, was located and arrested on charges of Driving While Suspended, Burglary 1st Degree, and an active Marion County Warrant. Howald was placed on a 24 hour hold at the Pike County Jail.

A criminal charge is merely an allegation and the defendant is, of course, presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
