The Springfield Sliders scored early and held off a late rally to beat the Hannibal Hoots 2-1 Monday in Springfield.

Springfield scored a run in the first on a double, a ground out and an RBI single by designated hitter Richard Miller. The Sliders added a run in the second on a solo home run by second baseman Josh White.

Hannibal mounted a rally in the eighth on a two-out walk to center fielder Patrick Donohue and a run-scoring double by first baseman Dylan Dodd. The next two batters reached base, but were stranded to end the inning.

The loss drops the Hoots to 20-29, while the Sliders improve to 26-22.

The two teams meet again at Clemens Field in Hannibal at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday.
