The inaugural season of the Hannibal Hoots opened on a high note Wednesday with a 4-0 win over the Danville Dans at Clemens Field.

The Hoots got on the board in the third. Third baseman Joe Roscetti and left fielder Tommy Kraus led off the inning with singles, followed by walks to shortstop Ethan Owens and right fielder Aaron Goecks, driving in Roscetti. Kraus scored when catcher Brady West grounded into a double play.

Hannibal scored again in the fifth on a walk to West, a single by first baseman Jordan Humphries and a throwing error.

The Hoots rounded out the scoring with a run in the sixth on a leadoff triple by center fielder Tye Thixton and a one-out sacrifice fly by Roscetti.

Meanwhile, Hannibal starting pitcher Dylan Dodd, along with relievers Jonny Steiner and Tyler Lunger, shut out the Dans on six hits, striking out 14 and walking only one.

The Hoots hit the road Thursday, taking on the Sliders in Springfield. They'll be back home Friday to face the Quincy Gems and Saturday when the Terre Haute Rex come to town.
