The Hannibal Hoots ended a four-game losing streak Friday, taking an early lead and withstanding a late rally, beating the Gems 9-6 in Quincy.

Hannibal scored a run in the first, four in the second and two in the third while Quincy scored twice in the first, then plated a run in the fifth.

The Hoots scored two insurance runs in the seventh. The Gems scored three in the bottom of the seventh, but that was all.

Zach Gibbs was the winning pitcher in relief for Hannibal.

The win improves the Hoots' record to 17-23, while the Gems drop to 18-22.

Hannibal is at Springfield Saturday, and are back home to face the Gems at Clemens Field Sunday at 3:05 p.m.
