The Hannibal Hoots came up just short twice Thursday, losing a double header in Danville, 3-1 and 2-1 in twelve innings.

In game one, Hannibal scored first in the third on a one-out walk to right fielder Patrick Donohue and a two-out RBI double by designated hitter Dylan Dodd.

Danville answered with a run in the bottom of the third on two singles and a run-scoring double by center fielder Zach Huffins.

The Dans scored what turned out to be the winning runs in the fifth on a double, a single, a ground out and a double.

Randall Coxwell was the losing pitcher.

In game two, Danville plated a run in the first, then the Hoots tied the game in the seventh on a single by DH Chris Iazetta, two ground outs and a wild pitch.

The score stayed 1-1 until the bottom of the twelfth, when right fielder Cade Evans reached on an error with one out, stole second, then with two out, scored on a single by first baseman Ben Bianco to win the game.

The double header sweep drops the Hoots' record to 16-23 and improves the Dans to 22-17.

Hannibal returns to QU Stadium to face the Quincy Gems Friday at 6:35 p.m.
