Hannibal firefighters were called to a residential fire at 1013 Union at 8:46 a.m. Friday.

Fire crews arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the front of the structure. The blaze was contained and extinguished within 45 minutes. Fire department personnel stayed on the scene until about 12:30 p.m. to complete salvage, overhaul and investigation operations.

The occupants of the home did get out safely. There was heavy smoke damage through the house, with moderate to heavy fire and heat damage in a bedroom and the attic.

Investigators determined the cause was accidental and electrical in nature.

The investigation also determined there was not a functioning smoke detector in the home.
