$47,000 in new gear is arriving for the Hannibal Fire Department.

Twenty sets of new bunker gear are arriving. The current gear is over eight years old and is deteriorating. Fire Chief Sean Hampton says the older gear has problems with Velcro, holes in pockets and additional problems. It is also important that the gear fit each firefighter individually. One suit for a firefighter can cost in excess of $2,000. Those with the most heavily worn gear are getting replacement personal protective gear this year. Plans are to outfit the rest next year.
