The Hannibal City Council has approved funding for upgrades to Hannibal Municipal Airport.

At a special meeting Tuesday, the council agreed to amend a state block grant from the Missouri Highway Transportation Commission to allow for more than half-a-million dollars in upgrades.

At its last regular meeting, the council had accepted a bid of over $650,000 to expand a taxiway at the airport and to pave the way for private hangars to be built.

The city will contribute about ten percent of the total cost of the expansion.

No exact date has been set for construction to begin.
