The Hannibal Cavemen got the second half of the Prospect League season off to a winning start as they beat the Quincy Gems for the first time this season with a 3-1 win Thursday night at Clemens Field.

The Gems only run of the game came in the first on an RBI double by designated hitter Dean Nevarez.

The Cavemen tied the game in the second when DH Noah Lee walked and was driven in on a double by right fielder Matthew Green.

The game stayed 1-1 until the eighth. Catcher Travis Kostello led off with a single but was thrown out trying to steal. Second baseman Joseph Collazo followed with a single, but shortstop Ross Lemmel struck out. Center fielder Austin Seiner singled and third baseman Seth Soto walked, loading the bases. That set the stage for first baseman Romero Harris, who singled driving in Collazo and Seiner.

Ryan Furtney shut down the Gems in the ninth for his third save. Reliever Jordan Chapel got the win.

Hannibal travels to Springfield to face the Sliders Friday and Saturday nights. The Cavemen's next home game is Sunday night when the DuPage Drones come to town. The webcasts of all Hannibal home games can be heard here.
