The Hannibal Cavemen threatened in both games, but came up short, losing a doubleheader to the DuPage Drones 8-6 in eight innings and 9-7 Wednesday night.

Game one was a back-and-forth contest. Hannibal scored first on a sacrifice fly by third baseman Romero Harris in the first inning.

DuPage scored two runs each in the fourth and fifth, taking a 4-1 lead. The Cavemen came back to score a run in the fifth on an RBI single by Harris, and plated three more in the sixth on a single by center fielder Wyatt Champlin and a two-run single by Harris, giving Hannibal a 5-4 lead.

The Drones came back with two in the seventh to take a 6-5 lead, but the Cavemen tied it on an RBI double by shortstop Collin Luty.

DuPage scored twice in the eighth and the Cavemen had the winning run at the plate in the bottom of the eighth but couldn't score.

In game two, the Drones jumped on Hannibal pitching early, building up a 7-0 lead in the fifth. The Cavemen scored twice in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run double by second baseman Ross Lemmel.

DuPage got those runs back with two in the sixth, but Hannibal mounted a furious comeback in the seventh, sending ten men to the plate and scoring five times and again had the winning run at the plate at the end.
