QU Stadium in Quincy was the scene of a good old fashioned pitching duel as the Gems edged the Hannibal Cavemen 2-1 Wednesday night.

Gems' shortstop Deion Thompson led off the bottom of the first with a home run off Cavemen starter Dalton Overstreet.

Jordan Chapel relieved Overstreet in the sixth and gave up a one-out double to third baseman Trey Mathis and a two-out RBI single to catcher C.J. Schaeffer.

The Cavemen made it interesting in the ninth when third baseman Seth Soto led off with a home run, but Quincy reliever Elvin Ramos retired the next three for the save.

The Cavemen and the Gems meet again Thursday night at QU Stadium at 6:35 p.m. The probable starting pitchers are Derek Jones for Hannibal and Sam Huser for Quincy.

The Cavemen are back at Clemens Field Friday and Saturday as the DuPage Drones make their first appearance in Hannibal. Game times are 6:38 p.m. Friday and 2:08 p.m. Saturday. If you can't attend, you can hear the webcast of all Cavemen home games here.
